The Archaeological Museum of Girona is part of the vast network of museums on the historical heritage distributed throughout Catalonia region. Since 1857 the museum is housed in the Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, on the Plaça Santa Llúcia square, center villa Girona, one of the most important buildings of the Catalan Romanesque. Its permanent collection includes pieces from prehistory to the Middle Ages, gathered on the province, through works from the Neolithic, Iberian, Greek, Punic, Etruscan and Roman (as Tombstone of Seasons fourth century after Christ) cultures. Many works were collected during excavations of Ampurias, in l'Escala.

    The archaeological site of Castellum Fractum is a few kilometers north of Girona, on the little mountain of Sant Julia, 190 meters high. At his feet runs the river Ter an the ancient Roman Via Augusta route, now N-II.     The Shrine of the Angels is located at 484 meters above sea level, on one of the highest mountains in the mountain ranges formed by the Gavarres.
