Protected behind its imposing Renaissance gate, the vast pentagonal Ciutadella includes a museum highlighting its history. The grounds of the citadel, a curious mish-mash of eras, includes the layout of the original Greek streets on which it was erected and the remains of a seventeenth-century monastery built within the extensive, moat-lined walls.
