Imagine a place where travelling through time, back to the past. Tossa de Mar is something like an outdoor museum. Its prehistoric remains from roman Turissa go through the medieval Tursa into modern Tossa. Once a meeting point for intellectuals (Marc Chagall, Picasso), now a very beloved touristic destination, Tossa de Mar is one of the most beautiful village in the Costa Brava.
Tossa de Mar is one of those typical coastal towns of the Empordà, where we find the pines growing and reaching sea, almost touching the water.
Tossa's economy, some centuries ago, was based on the cork and wine industry. However, the filming of 'Pandora' in 1950 (starring Ava Gardner), parallel to the beginning of the village as a tourist destination on the Costa Brava, turned this beautiful coastal location into one of the best known around the world. For this reason tourism has become the main economic engine of the town during last decades.
Tossa's origins are pre-Roman. Known as Turissa, it enjoys an exceptional geographic location, situated between Lloret de Mar (south) and Sant Feliu de Guixols (north). To get there you must take the road GI-682, which passes through the two mentioned locations. Both coming from Lloret and from Sant Feliu, the views from the road are fantastic. It is almost obligatory stop at one of the many panoramic viewpoints marked through the edge of the road to watch and take pictures of the views of the creeks that are visible from there. Through this way you can access beautiful and spectacular beaches such as Cala Giverola, Cala del Senyor Raimon, Cala Vallpresona, Cala Canyet, etc.
From Roman times Tossa still keeps the villa of Els Ametllers, located in av. of Pelegri, 3-5, near the Torre de Sant Magí (St. Magí Tower). Discovered by Dr. Ignasi Melee in 1914, it has its origin in the first century BC and was inhabited until the sixth century AD. It's really a great honor to Tossa to have one of the best towns in the former province of Tarraco, which has survived until today. In els Ametllers the owners cultivated grapes and exported wine to the rest of the Roman Empire. It is therefore a classic example of farming in the Mediterranean area dominated by the Romans.
Already in the center of town, you have to visit the walled enclosure, which is exactly the Vila Vella de Tossa. Listed as National Historic-Artistic Monument by the Spanish government, its walls now represent the only example of a fortified medieval town on the Catalan coast. It is composed of seven watchtowers (including, for example, d'en Joan, Codolar and Heures).
It is highly recommended to walk through the streets of this small walled area and get to the Faro de Tossa (Tossa Lighthouse), which overlooks a magnificent view of the rocky coastline south of village.
Tossa Lighthouse (1917), located on the highest part of the Vila Vella de Tossa has become the Lighthouse Interpretation Centre (Centro de Interpretación de Faros) of our coastline. This innovative equipment in the museum domain is a point of reference for all those interested in the world of maritime signals. It is an audiovisual center, adapted to visitors in several languages that teaches us the history and the different technologies used in the world of lighthouses and the lifestyle of their guardians, the lighthouse keepers. The space devoted to museum gives us the chance to see different parts of this maritime heritage.
Outside the Walls, bounded by the streets Portal and Estolt, you find the district of Sa Roqueta, a traditional place of fishermen formed in the first stage of Tossa urban expansion, back in the XVI century. Further, following the street Portal, is the commercial center of town.
The walk along the seafront of Tossa, from the walls to the beach of Mar Menuda is also a nice experience. This tour will allow you to enjoy the sea and the spectacular views of the Cape of Tossa and the fortified ancient villa previously described.
The Municipal Museum, housed in the Batlle Palace, bears testimony to the passage through Tossa of Marc Chagall, André Masson, Joaquim Sunyer and other painters captivated by this landscape.
Tossa boasts fine beaches such as Llorell and Morisca, and one of the most beautiful stretches on this coastline: the road to Sant Feliu de Guíxols (twenty-five kilometres of bend after bend) through the coves of Salions, Futadera, Giverola and Pola.

We had to ask for hot water many times per day for the baby and they were always there to help us with that (with a smile), they even washed the bottles. The shower curtain was really dirty and it was yellow at the bottom, it needs to be changed. But the lady that cleaned the room every day did a great job. They didn't have air conditioning in the room, so it was a little bit hot sometimes. |

We loved everything. It took 5 minutes of relax walking to get to the beach and 5 minutes to get to the bus station. It was very clean, the cleaning lady checked then room everyday, staff was nice and helpfull , the morning food, even though the same for 10 days, was good and plenty. The staff were friendly and helpful when we needed assistance or information. The "family room" that we had was clean and with two bathrooms & sets of wardrobes etc, it gave us lots of flexibility. The hotel location was close to the beach and shops. There wasn't any air conditioning in the room, so although this didn't directly affect us, later on in the season when temperatures are higher, this might mean the room could be stuffy. We weren't supplied with bathroom mats/towels and so the tiled floor got quite wet and slippy. |

El enmoquetado era mas propio de una pelicula de los años 70. Y se oia todo de todas las habitaciones contiguas. Hemos estado en pensiones mas limpias, mas correctas y sobre todo, mas economicas. Situado al lado de la zona comercial de tossa a escasos metros de la playa. hotel con las habitaciones nuevas, modernas muy bien decoradas y comodas. Las zonas comunes son un poco viejas pero estan muy limpias. El personal es muy amable. De lo poco que se pueda decir la presion del agua, por lo demas todo correcto. |

Das hotel liegt sehr zentral in tossa,man ist überall in kürzester zeit: am meer, auf der burg, in der fußgängerzone. Die zimmer sind neu,modern und ansprechend gestaltet,das bad sehr sauber und praktisch eingeteilt. Wir waren 5 tage, auch übers Wochenende im hotel windsor und konnten uns gut erholen, auch wenn in der nacht die tonnen geleert oder die straße gekehrt wurde,dann wird für ein paar minuten laut, aber deshalb ist tossa immer blitzsauber. Nachts ist einiges geboten in der altstadt von tossa,das hört man natürlich auch aber man hat ja selber urlaub und möchte was sehen und erleben und das muss man auch den andern zugestehen! leben und leben lassen! Das frühstück war ok, wurst, käse obst, alles da, jeder findet da was! kaffee: na ja... Der pool ist sauber und groß genug zum schwimmen,in der engen altstadt von tossa eher selten. Die poolumgebung und der garten könnten etwas schöner gestaltet werden, was aber nicht so wichtig ist weil das meer direkt vor füßen liegt. - Удобное расположение. Две минуты до моря, за 10 минут можно на одной ноге допрыгать. Рядом автовокзал, т.к. мы ехали самостоятельно на автобусе из Барселоны, было очень удобно. - Закрытая территория с достаточно большим для Европы бассейном. - Собственная парковка. - Доброжелательный персонал, ежедневная уборка номера, смена полотенец. - Хороший завтрак. - Интернет, в общественных зонах. Номер хороший, однако не понравился душ. Лейка душа забита накипью, поэтому вода лилась одним потоком как из крана. |

La posizione, perché l'albergo è proprio al centro di Tossa de Mar, la colazione ricchissima, molto buona e compresa nel prezzo della camera, la piscina, anche se piccolina, ma molto comoda e infine il parcheggio (anche se 12 euro al giorno non sono poche), altrimenti non sarebbe proprio possibile trovare posto in zona. Nulla, consiglio sicuramente un soggiorno in quest'hotel! |

Отель прекрасно расположен в самом центре старого года, и буквально в 2-х минутах ходьбы от пляжа, при чем, так как у него центральное расположение если смотреть на карту города, то близко от всего: от всех пляжей, крепости, набережной, кафе и автостанции. Отель для тех кому нужен бюджетный комфорт (если образно), т.е цена на отель средняя, но уровень услуг за эти деньги более чем достойный. Прекрасный номер (у нас был улучшенный с балконом в сторону бассейна), хорошая сантехника, очень дружелюбный персонал, идеальное расположение, на тихой улице, поэтому мы слышали шумные компании только в отдалении, и она не мешали спать. Завтрак - лично мне не хватало горячего. Не буду указывать это в минусах, так как для многих такой завтрак более чем хороший - выпечка просто выше всяких похвал, много фруктов. Просто я привыкла к кашам, блинам, омлетам и яичницам дома. Но это лично мои хотелки, мужу завтрак нравился. Слышимость есть, опять же не укажу в минус, так как это не критично было в нашем отдыхе.
